Background: The quality of drinking water is a major concern in low resource settings like Cameroon where water- borne diseases occur frequently. Access to potable water in both rural and urban areas in the country is a challenge. Populations are therefore compelled to seek for alternative sources of water such as boreholes and wells (hand dug) as is the case in the Tiko Municipality, which are prone to contamination. Objective: This study was aimed at assessing households' practices of disinfection and microbial analysis of borehole and well water sources in the Tiko Municipality. Materials and methods: An observational cross-sectional study was conducted in the Tiko Health District to assess the practices of disinfection of 482 households managing boreholes and wells, using questionnaires..........

Patient navigation (PN) is a model of care in which a professional helps the patients overcome difficulties during their treatment. Although established in oncology, the profession does not have regulations, and the training varies in each program. Data about navigators' formation is scarce, but nurses the most prevalent professionals in a literature review. Since cancer patients can feel more imbued in expressing feelings, understanding, and coping with the disease, a psychologist could also be capable of navigating.......

Mesh infections following open hernia repair pose a daunting postoperative challenge given the sheer number of cases involved, the severity of consequences to the patient, and the attendant cost to the healthcare system. Mesh infections following hernia repair are known to increase re-operation rates, morbidity, financial cost, as well as hernia recurrence (which, in turn, leads to all of the aforementioned factors. 1,2 In many circumstances, this implies the need for a third, if not fourth or more, operation for redo repair of the hernia with reintroduction of synthetic mesh at some point in the patient's course. This is because the second operation will typically be limited to removal of the infected mesh without

The purpose of this study is to compare, optimize and verify the spectrophotometric and HPLC analysis methods with fluorescence detection to measure sialic acid in dementia drugs and cognitive functional foods containing sialic acid derived from edible bird's nest. A common sample preparation procedure (hydrolysis and purification) for both methods has been proposed. The linearity (from 6 to 150 lg of total sialic acid in the assay for spectrophotometry, and from 12.5 to 250 ng and 1 to 5 ng of Neu5Ac and Neu5Gc, respectively, for HPLC) is adequate. The detection and quantification limits (0.29 and 0.97 mg of total sialic acid/L of reconstituted sample, respectively, for spectrophotometry.......

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and a leading cause of chronic disability largely due to knee or hip involvement .The social burden of osteoarthritis(OA) relates to its pervasive presence. The review also illustrate that the incidence elevates globally and prevalence increases progressively that OA is an global burden to economic and social life. The risk factors which mainly contributes its progression includes age and obesity being the major ones ,the Knee osteoarthritis is the most common Osteoarthritis affecting people worldwide and total knee arthroplasty (TKR) being the most effective and safe surgical intervention for the endstage Knee Osteoarthritis.
